Human and crocodiles share pond in Burkina Faso

🧑🐊Human and crocodiles share pond in Burkina Faso

Crocodiles are considered one of the deadliest hunters on the planet. But in the West African nation of Burkina Faso, the predatory reptiles are not a threat but sacred guardians to local people.

In a small village called Bazoule, around 30 kilometers from the capital Ouagadougou, villagers have shared their pond peacefully with more than 100 crocodiles for years.

Locals grow up swimming with the razor-toothed creatures in the water and are not afraid of sitting or lying on the reptiles.

According to the local legend, the harmonious relationship with the predators dates back to at least the 15th century. The village had been suffering from a severe drought until the crocodiles led women to a hidden pond where the villagers could quench their thirst.
