SAVE DEMOCRACY AFRICA YOUTH PARLIAMENT
EXPRESSION OF INTEREST TO BE A MEMBER OF THE 2ND ASSEMBLY
The Management of Save Democracy Africa (Common Destiny Development Centre for Africa)
invites Youths from 54-member states of the African Union (AU) resident in any part of the
world, to submitExpression of Interest (EOI) letter to be members of the 2nd Assembly of the
Save Democracy Africa Youth Parliament. All applicants are expected to meet the eligibility
criteria set out in Rule 2 of Powers and Privileges Booklet of the Parliament, which is abridged
herein below.
Save Democracy Africa Youth Parliament is a 120-member Youth parliament established in
2016 in line with the provisions of the African Youth Charter (Banjul Declaration) of July 2006,
which serves as the continental framework that underlines the rights, duties and freedom of
the African youths. SDA Parliament is affiliated to number of Regional and global
groups.Parliamentarians at the SDA Youth Parliament have the privilege of being members of
the UN Youth Assembly, where they join the global network of youth taking action to solve
some of the world’s most pressing issues. The current Speaker of the Parliament has been
participating in the United Nations Global Youth Assembly since his election in August
2016.Participation into the Parliament is based on merit, competence and in accordance with
the proportional representation formula and criteria adopted in the 1st Schedule of the
Parliament’s Powers and Privileges Booklet.
Nature of Membership:
Membership is for a renewable term of 2 years. Participation is part-time and members are not
employees of the Parliament, but potential leaders in training. Parliamentary sitting is physical
or virtual and for a mandatory period of not less than 26 sittings per year. Members are in the
parliament to learn to make laws, conduct researches and oversights, perform deliberative
functions, advocacy roles and campaigns. They also trained to identify and facilitate a Private
Member Pet Project (PMPP) within such thematic areas as spelt out in the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations. Participation is self-sponsored, but SDA
support members in securing relevant visas for official trips and in seeking for grants and
sponsorship from development partners, international organizations and lead endorsers.
Eligibility:
To apply
a. All applicants must be between 18-35 years in the year of their induction.

b. Must possess at least a 1st degree or equivalent from a recognized University or
Polytechnic.

c. Must be fluent in any of the three Parliament’s recognized languages – English, French and
Portuguese.

d. Have a knowledge of ICT and conversant with such IT applications as WhatsApp, twitter,
facebook, Instagram etc.

e. Good interpersonal and communication skill.

f. Previous participation in voluntary leadership activities and community service shall be
added advantages.

Method of Application:

All youths who meet the eligibility criteria listed above and who wish to join the Parliament are
to submit one page Expression of Interest letter, addressed to the Clerk of the Parliament,
stating their intention and reason to be a member of the Parliament. The letter accompanied
with their Curriculum vitae (CV) shall be sent to
savedemocracyafrica@gmail.com .

All EOI letters must be received on all before 20th July, 2018. Announcement of nominated members of
the 2nd Assembly shall be made after screening, on 31st of July, 2018, while inauguration into the
Parliament shall take place on 22nd August, 2018.
