Adesuwa Onyenokwe, publisher of Todays women magazine tells a story

Adesuwa Onyenokwe, publisher of Todays Woman magazine narrates how and why she kept the visit Black Panther (Wakanda) actress Lupita Nyong'o to Lagos secret. "I decided to tell the story of this picture taken on 11/04/18 because it holds a lesson in trust, friendship, being real & staying true to yourself. So, I received a mail from Chimamanda saying a team would be in Nigeria for research on the serialization of her novel Americanah. She wanted them to visit a magazine publisher & she recommended me because she knew I would respect her wishes to keep it under wraps while they were here. This was neccessary because, our Wakanda Fever from the highly succesful Black Panther movie would have made moving around incognito difficult for Danai & Lupita. I could have ignored her plea & jumped on the opportunity to share the news while they were here to score some publicity points but I didn't because it would amount to breaking a trust. However, I called my two aburos @ebunfeludu & @Kemiogunleye who are a pepertual part of my editorial team, to join us, swearing them to secrecy too. We had an afternoon of laughter & shared experiences on life, publishing in Nigeria, amongst other things. It didn't matter that my office was hot because the generator in our serviced space had gone out & Nepa was AWOL, as usual! Danai took off her wig & Lupita, in a shift dress, was ok. She even managed to swing a quick talk with my 16 year old, who is a huge fan. Kemi the fixer promised to work out a wedding attendance for the next day so they could experience a Nigerian wedding as part of their research, a promise she made good on. You wouldn't know these are Hollywood sensations, they were just young women getting real with their fellow African women. This tells me that women will always relate to each other when there are no airs. As we saw them out, we convinced them to take a photo for records. That's how we ended up capturing the moment using Lupita's Samsung phone. I am sure they left with memories, concrete like the wakanda earrings from @potofgoldng the coconut oil from @jamcoconutfoods & the intangible memories that will remain in their hearts forever, like trust & friendship. This is my TGIF moment. PS: Be trustworthy, stay still doing your best in your spot, glory will come!"
