RESTRUCTURING: THE WAY FORWARD FOR A NEW NIGERIA.
..DISCUSSANTS SAY YES TO RESTRUCTURING
Today's public lecture was part of the week long programme drawn by the restoration government to celebrate the 6th anniversary of the governor Dickson's led administration.
The only lecture for the day was delivered by a former Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. General Alani Akinrinade (rtd).
Lt.Gen. Ipoola Alani Akinrinade CFR FSS was Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Nigeria from October 1979 to April 1980, and then Chief of Defence Staff until 1981 during the Nigerian Second Republic
The general is of the opinion that democratic restructuring can only be realized through quality interaction, elites negotiations and participation, intense lobbying, consensus building etc.
He said restructuring is not a panacea for good governance, but a means to an end.
He said governor Seriake Dickson deserve a heroic acknowledgement for his lofty Restoration agenda and boldness to articulate the sound position on restructuring.
In his words " Restructuring does not entail devolution of power".
Restructuring is a sine qua non for survival.
The four man panel of discussants was moderated by ambassador Dr. Godknows Boladei Igali,a Nigerian public servant, diplomat, author and scholar.
He was appointed by President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua in September 2007 as an ambassador to the Scandinavian countries - Denmark, Finland and Norway , a position he occupied until he was appointed a Federal Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Water Resources on the 4th of May 2010.
Human Rights Activist and Spokesman for the Afenifere,Dr.Yinka Odumakin define restructuring to mean true federalism.
According to Odumakin,a restructured nation is a developed, progressive and more united one.

is of the firm believe that restructuring will drastically reduce the tension and mend all broken walls resulted from that,
Another prominent discussant and former Chairman of the Editorial Board of The Guardian Newspaper, prof G.G Darah call for 100% resource control and fiscal federalism and equally suggested an agreed amount that will be paid to the center to keep every sector together.
Shettima Yerima, president of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum make a serious case for youths participation and promised to build the required synergy between the North and other parts of the country.
