3 Children receive burns from adulterated kerosene in Ifitedunu Ngozi Obileri Cases of adulterated kerosene burns were recorded recently at Ifitedunu, where three children from two different families were burnt as a result of adulterated kerosene. The victims, seventeen year old Miss Chinaza Nwabisi, an orphan, Miss Mmesoma Nweke, twelve year old, all from Ugbuala village, Ifitedunu sustained serious degrees injuries while the nine year old Emmanuel Nweke sustained minor burns on his head and hands. The victims were admitted at a hospital in Ifitedunu, Dunukofia council area , on Sunday and Monday respectively by Dr William Onwuocha who told ABS that the incident was as a result of mixture of fuel and kerosine by local bunkerers where the said fuel station bought the product. Dr Onwuocha who said that there may be other cases further cautioned independent marketers to be mindful of the product they dispense to individuals to avoid repetition of such incidents. Narrating their ordeal, the mother of Miss Mmesoma and Emmanuel, Mrs Jacinta Nweke, explained that while preparing for mass around 5 0'clock on Sunday, her children while refilling the lantern which was lighted to enable them prepare for mass, suddenly heard a loud noise from their sitting room, and on rushing towards the room, noticed flames inside the house,not knowing that her children were being burnt ,until neighbours helped her to put off the fire . On her part, the guardian of Chinaza said that they bought their own from a retailer in their neighborhood, and on refilling already lighted lantern, Chinaza received the burns. Meanwhile, ABS was met with hostile pump attendants who refused to oblige interview or disclose the location of the Manager of the fuel station where the kerosene was bought from, to ascertain the quality of the product.
